RNF168, a new RING finger, MIU-containing protein that modifies chromatin by ubiquitination of histones H2A and H2AX

Sabrina Pinato, Cristina Scandiuzzi, Nadia Arnaudo, Elisabetta Citterio, Giovanni Gaudino, Lorenza Penengo BMC Molecular Biology 2009, 10:55 (5 June 2009)

RNF168, a recently identified RING finger protein, exhibits ubiquitin ligase activity which targets the H2A family of histones, and on genotoxic insult, colocalizes with H2AX at dsDNA breaks, activating prolonged ubiquitination and amplifying the DNA damage response.
